RED MILLS sets the REBELS on FIRE

With an 7 Race Card down for decision this afternoon at the new grass venue in Caheragh the recently acquired RED MILLS sponsorship deal with the Irish Trotting & Harness Racing Federation set the tone for the new racecard format.

With 50 runners and 9 qualifiers facing the starter the rebels have made a miraculous recovery following a few difficult years which brought the organisation almost to the brink of extention. This afternoons display of horsepower, manpower, willpower and firepower bodes well for the future of the sport in the south west.

With RED being the operative word it was another faultless display for the connections of Red Jasper Kieran McCarthy and local Blacksmith Billy Twomey notching up their third victory of the season with the up and coming driver Matthew O’Reilly. It was three in a row also for owner trainer Chris O’Reilly with  Pardon My Dust a promising 3 Yr old by Lyons Joseph out of Back in Business. It was also a return to the winners enclosure for another local Blacksmith Finbar Brickley as Ringo Star got up in the dying strides to deny the early leader Wellfield Davy by a length. The man from Sherry Fitzgerald local Auctioneer Micheal Duggan was pipped on the line by a head for a driving double with Rokococo whilst having a comfortable margin later in the afternoon on board Sky Security, both drawn in backmarker positions this pair are full brothers with their elder sibling Cams Rapido having recently clocked a sub 2 minute mile at Portmarnock Raceway.

With the REBELS assembling another raiding party for the Capital D’s home of trotting next weekend Portmarnock looks like the place to be. Following this the REBELS make the off shore pilgrimage to Aberystwyth to meet and greet and hopefully beat the best in the British Isles
