The Irish Harness Racing Association having been approved as the Passport Issuing Organisation (PIO) for the Standardbred breed in Ireland by the Department of Agriculture are pleased to announce that we have now concluded the processing agreement with Horse Sport Ireland to manage all aspects of the new setup including passports, covering certificates, transfer of ownership, stallion certification, foreign imports etc.
HSI will maintain separate Stud Books for both Pacers and Trotters on behalf of the IHRA including supplementary Stud Book for progeny not complying with the main Stud Book rules.
As the IHRA is now the Department of Agriculture’s approved Stud Book and PIO for both Trotters and Pacers in Ireland all such horses born or registered for the first time in Ireland are now required to be issued with the new Irish passports.
With immediate effect the new arrangements will supersede all previous arrangements in place with STAGBI.

This long overdue process is another significant step for Ireland and gives recognition for the first time to the Standardbred breed which now takes its place in the Irish Horse Register.
